The dam has had a significant impact on the economy and culture of Egypt.

This obelisk is believed to belong to Queen Hatshepsut, one of the rulers of the 18th dynasty and the royal wife of king Tuthmosis II. The unfinished obelisk is the largest known ancient obelisk, located in the northern region of the stone quarries of ancient Egypt in Aswan, Egypt. It is unknown which pharaoh created this structure. It is nearly one third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever erected. If finished it would have measured around 42 m and would have weighed nearly 1,200 tons. Day # 2) Aswan- Abu Simbel Sightseeing Tour- Luxor
Our representative will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan at 03:30 am to enjoy Abu Simbel guided trip by private air-conditioned vehicle. The two Temples of Abu Simbel are considered masterpieces of ancient Egypt, reflecting the glory and grandeur of the new Kingdom. The Temple of Ramses II, called the Sun Temple, was dedicated to the four universal gods Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Ra, and to Ramses II himself. The Temple of Queen Nefertari is also called Temple of Hathor, after the goddess who was the wife of the Sun God, so in a symbolic way the two temples bring Ramses II, Nefertari, Hathor and the Sun God together as one. The temples at Abu Simbel were formerly located further down the hillside, facing the Nile in the same relative positions, but due to the rising waters of Lake Nasser, the original locations are underwater. In the 1960′s, each temple was carefully sawed into numbered stone cubes, moved uphill, and reassembled before the water rose. The Egyptian government and UNESCO decided to co-operate in order to save these temples from the flood. Drive back to Aswan for Lunch and free time in Aswan.
